Why include Green Smoothies in my Diet?
Green smoothies are a delicious and convenient way to get more raw fruit and greens into our diets. Using edible weeds, green smoothies become a powerhouse of nutrition. Greens taste great when combined with the sweetness of fruit.
How do I make Green Smoothies?
The most basic recipe is a handful of greens, 3 -4 pieces of your favourite fruits and a cup of water or juice.
Depending on the blender you have, it can work best to put the water and the greens in the blender first to make sure your greens become fine enough. Otherwise you can simply throw everything in together. It might take a bit of experimenting to get it just the way you like it. In particular, you may want to add more water to get the consistency you prefer. If you like your green smoothie thicker, bananas or persimmons are great additions.
Here is a simple recipe to get started …
2 cups of greens (for example, spinach, silverbeet or warrigal greens leaves and/or other edible weeds)
3-4 oranges, fresh squeezed
1/2 a pineapple (about 3-4 Cups)
1/2 cup water
Freshly squeeze the oranges and use the juice. Chop a fresh pineapple and add to blender. Blend all the ingredients for a minute, or two. Pour into a glass and enjoy the easiest way to get your greens for the day!
